Multi-clock Replication (MCR)

    Version 3.01a & higher required

MCR (Multi-clock replication) synchronizes data between clocks. It collects data from most tables in the remote clocks’ databases and updates the host's database accordingly. The program can be run in Host & Guest mode. The Host mode collects more information than the Guest mode.

MCR is a slow synchronization unlike Replicate, which rapidly synchronizes a very limited set of data between clocks. MCR will synchronize one table per remote clock as set in the clock time delay. Certain core tables are synchronized more frequently than other tables. The employee, card and clocking tables are core tables. The clocking, employee processing, global processing and payroll tables are only synchronized if the clock is set to host mode.

    Overview

In brief, all employees with assigned cards & enrolled fingerprints are replicated to the respective PEER clocks. Data such as clockings, hours & leave are also propagated over the configured MCR spectrum. Below a detailed breakdown of the tables which are indeed affected by enabling MCR on each clock.

    Configuration

Setting up of MCR can be done through the clocks web interface. Firstly enable MCR on the clock by selecting the applicable mode under Setup >> Clock setup.

    UpdateDevConfig.png

Then add the clocks with which this particular clock needs to replicate with under Hardware >> Peer clocks. Be sure to enable the MCR feature for each PEER clock.

    UpdatePeers.png

Lastly, out of the clocks which were added as PEER clocks, chose which one is to be the MAIN clock. Enable processing for this clock as it is then responsible to collate all data & process it on one central unit.

    Clock Status

The clock status menu item shows information relevant to MCR after the general information and networking details are displayed. Regardless of whether MCR is running or not, an overview screen will be shown with the clock’s MCR status (off, on or host mode) and how many peer clocks are configured. A list of all peers is shown if any peers are configured. The serial number, IP address and time of last communication from the peer is shown.

    Network Settings

MCR settings are included in the network settings menu item. The user is given the option of turning off MCR or changing the operating mode between host non-processing, host processing and normal mode. Peer clocks can be added by entering the peer clock’s IP address. The default port number of 5123 is used and the serial number is looked up automatically.
